The Garage@Penang
The Garage is a gift and souvenir bazaar with a pub all rolled into one like some all in one tool kit. It is actuallyed a restored old automobile garage building opposite the Eastern & Oriental Hotel.
A little bit of History lesson, the building is so named because it was originally the former Wearne's garage, selling and servicing British Leyland automobile brands like Austin, Morris and Jaguar. Hence, to rename it as The Garage really does make sense.
When I went to The Garage at night, most of the shops inside was closed. It contains several antique and curio shops, and a cosy informal coffee-house. While these were closed, the nightspots which is within and connected to The Garage was opened. It's nightspots like the Latino-flavoured Slippery Senoritas was great!
Other nighspots like the unplugged Rice which plays oriental music, Lush with house music, and The Bungalow fun pub in the annex heritage building would have to wait for me the next time I come to Penang.
All these nightspots comes to life with their fusion of lights and sounds making this street one happening street.
These places are artistically blended to give a feel of Asian Heritage Row meets Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur, where you still can have good taste in style and music without sacrificing either one. If you are in Penang, do drop by around the corner!
